tell all the truth but tell it slant
Tell All The Truth But Tell It Slant is an exhibition that explores the concept of truth and the construction of knowledge, through the relationship between art, technology, science and society. The exhibition is conceived as a series of figurative circles, each approaching truth from a different angle, with a different perspective and interpretation. The questions raised are therefore varied and open-ended: from the relationship between truth and knowledge, the opposition between certainty and doubt, to the dangers of lying; from the writing of history to the complexity of belief systems, via the role of consciousness, the mind and the body.
In addition to the artists’ works, scientists, philosophers, epistemologists and experts from various fields have been invited to contribute to the exhibition, offering the public reflections, viewpoints and considerations from the most diverse perspectives of contemporary society and attempting to answer questions such as: what is true, how is it decided and by whom? What is the scientific method and should it be questioned? Is science always right? And if so, what are its areas of validity?
This exhibition was conceived, produced and curated by the Ohme collective.
As part of this exhibition, FACE B developed a cultural mediation programme aimed at actively involving cross-generational and often marginalised groups.
A series of four artistic creation workshops were held with the public at the Epicerie Sociale des Marolles, which works with people in precarious situations and excluded from the job market. The collage workshops, led by Brussels-based artist and art therapist Valérie Provost, set out to explore our vision of truth and the place of lies in our society, both in everyday life and in the world of storytelling. At the end of the cycle, the participants’ work was published in the form of a booklet, ‘Big Little Lies’, with their collages alongside true or fictional titles.
A series of guided tours have been specially designed for a varied public made up of young children and teenagers, the elderly and newcomers (MJ 88, Les Mercredis Artistiques, Globe Aroma’s Art For All, Fedasil Schaerbeek, etc).
